Sadly, Sofoklis was involved in a cycling accident on October 29th while commuting to work. He lived in London. Please read the blog his family and friends created while they prayed for his recovery. My heart goes out to them. Sofoklis passed away on November 6th.
Sofoklis was also a performer in the Olympic cultural festival. He was talented and shared his art selflessly.
I've been reading what I can find out about the accident and the truck (lorry) involved in the incident. I ask, would better road infrastructure have prevented this accident? To London: Bethnal Green Road needs to be looked at (very closely), so this never happens again. Please listen to all the bicyclists who travel on this road.
I was clipped by a bus at what I guess is the same place. The driver was unperturbed when I told him, although was more so when I punched his window repeatedly. Wrong reaction I know, but when someone has just nearly killed you and they shrug, then it is a bit annoying.
ReplyDeleteBetter infrastructure definitely would have stopped this. Having no parked cars would have stopped this.
Simon, thank you for stopping in to share your experience. Your reaction to the bus driver is certainly understandable as I have had similar experiences.
DeleteI dream someday that the US and UK will enforce strict laws like the Netherlands which holds motor vehicle drivers strictly liable. It's the only way to change these cavalier attitudes that some car drivers have towards cyclists. It's unfortunate that they get away with it.
Remember to let your voice be heard. If you come across any change to this road due to this accident. Let me know.
